“They Don’t Want Change”
“They don’t want change. They want power,” says Dag Hammarskjöld in the Swedish movie from last year.
Hammarskjöld was Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1953 until he died in 1961, and was dealing with the decolonisation of Africa, particularly the crisis in Congo when he said those words.
To me, this movie is a reminder of the lack of great leaders and defenders of peace today.
It stands as a stark reminder that although we had the long peace dividend and a pledge of “never again,” we, as humanity, have failed to learn that we are one and that we ought to serve humanity as a whole.
Watch it.
